Course Description
The objective of the course is to deepen students’ understanding of theory by connecting larger paradigms of sociological theories to specific theories that analyze a specific field of study in sociology. Selected topics in this course may include theories focusing specific issues in sociology such as gender and sexuality; marriage and family; adolescent development; globalization;; political participation; deviance and crime; social movements; religion; race and ethnicity; nationalism and national identity, etc. Whichever specialized theories are taught depends on the needs of the students.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Identify major sociological/criminological theories covered in the course.
CILO-2: Use the theories to analyze various social problems, crimes, and justice issues.
CILO-3: Apply the theories in sociological/criminological research and in thesis work.
