This course will concentrate on five main issues related to substance abuse and addiction: (1) the nature of drug addiction and dependence; (2) global distribution and patterns of substance abuse; (3) the psychological and social consequences of drug abuse and addiction; (4) commonly abused drugs and their effects; (5) drug abuse prevention and treatment.
