Course Description
This course focuses on theories of social movements and collective behaviour through an examination of contemporary movements. The goal is for students to learn the analytic tools necessary to examine and critically assess the role of social movements in our society. Students will learn the theoretical frameworks and perspectives to understand social movements and collective actions. The selected texts include articles from academic journals and case studies of movements which will further our theoretical and conceptual understanding of social movements.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: State the definition and scope of social movements and collective action.
CILO-2: Critically examine multi-disciplinary approaches in studying and researching social movement in sociology, political science, economics, organizational behaviour and management.
CILO-3: Analyze globalization process from the perspective of social movements and civil society.
