Course Description
This course studies how pervasive gender is in organizing our social life. We shall examine how gender organizes everything from our sense of personal identity to our daily face-to-face interactions, and how gender is embedded in institutions such as the family, labor market, popular culture, national and international politics and welfare systems. The aim is to provide students with sociological ways of thinking about gender and sexuality.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Acquire the basic concepts and theories in explaining gender differences and inequality.
CILO-2: Access national and international gender measurement, statistical and law/policy database.
CILO-3: Apply these concepts and theories to on-going gender issues in Macao and the world.
CILO-4: Apply a gendered lens in analyzing various political, socio-economic and cultural issues and welfare policies (gender mainstreaming).
CILO-5: Critically reflect their own gendered roles in everyday life.
