Course Description
This course aims to provide a general introduction to the theory and practice of clinical neuropsychology. The course focuses on neurological disorders (e.g., dementia, epilepsy, and traumatic brain injury), neuropsychological disorders (e.g., aphasia, amnesia), psychiatric disorders (e.g., depression) and behavioural syndromes (e.g., autism). The content will be taught through the following parts: (1) advanced issues in neuropsychological testing in professional settings; (2) principles of clinical interaction, including interviewing and history-taking; (3) diagnostic formulation; and (4) report writing.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Describe a range of neurological disorders commonly assessed in the field of clinical neuropsychology.
CILO-2: Describe commonly used instruments in field of clinical neuropsychology and rehabilitation including their uses, psychometrics and limitations.
CILO-3: Describe key neuropsychological assessment processes including interviewing and history-taking, diagnostic formulation, and report writing.
CILO-4: Describe the capacity to conduct semi-structured interviews related to understanding a client’s current functioning and history.
CILO-5: Describe the capacity to conduct standardized neuropsychological tests.
CILO-6: Describe the capacity to integrate interview data with test data and communicate clinical findings in oral and written formats.
