Course Description
This course introduces students to the specialization of clinical and counselling psychology. It covers the basic theoretical assumptions when understanding and treating pathological behaviours; spectrum of subfields and their prospects; and paradigms and implications in clinical and counselling psychology as a profession.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Describe and apply key psychological principles to the treatment of psychological problems from a variety of therapeutic perspectives based on oral discussions, case example illustrations, forced choice and essay test questions, video enactments and class presentations.
CILO-2: Identify, describe and articulate the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, and empirical findings related to clinical and counselling psychology intervention perspectives, including select biological interventions, psychoanalysis, Adlerian therapy, experiential psychotherapies, behaviour and cognitive-behaviour therapies, and constructivist therapies based on oral discussions, case example illustrations, forced choice test items and essay test questions.
CILO-3: Identify, describe, evaluate and illustrate select therapeutic interventions via video enactments and class presentations.
