Course Description
This course is a survey of psychological testing through an overview of measurement principles, the psychological assessment process, test construction and development, reliability and validity, and the use of test results in individual psychological evaluation. Examples relevant to clinical psychology (e.g., personality, mental disorders) and school psychology (e.g., ability, aptitude, learning, etc.) are given.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Identify and apply psychological principles to the measurement of psychological constructs (e.g. intelligence, personality) in oral discussions, case example illustrations, forced choice and essay test questions, class presentations and test manual assignments .
CILO-2: Identify, describe, and discuss the key concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and historical trends in psychological assessment, including statistical and measurement concepts (e.g., reliability, validity), test development and item analysis in oral discussions, case example illustrations, forced choice and essay test questions, class presentations and test manual assignments.
CILO-3: Identify, describe, and discuss theories and tests of intelligence, neuropsychological assessment, objective personality tests, projective techniques, clinical instruments and methods, behavioural assessment, measurement of interests and attitudes, and ethical and legal issues related to psychological assessment in oral discussions, case example illustrations, forced choice test items and essay test questions.
