The course covers the basic issues in research methodology and theories relevant to literature and cultural studies in the Portuguese area. Basic issues of literary and cultural analyses will be covered. These will be approached specifically in relation to the study of the Portuguese presence in Asia.

CILO-1: Understand the relevance and value of theoretical models in literary and cultural study. CILO-2: Use methodological and theoretical tools to read literary and cultural texts. CILO-3: Develop skills to produce critical discourse through original and persuasive arguments, both orally and in writing. CILO-4: Learn independently supported by an enlarged knowledge of literary uses of language, academic essays and rigorous textual analysis. CILO-5: Communicate research both orally and in written form.
