Course Description
This course addresses the application of current methodologies in the teaching of Portuguese as a Second Language. Developments in linguistics, educational and psychological studies lead to constant new input to foreign language teaching methodology and practice. The course introduces the student to major current practices and how research-driven innovations are developed in current practice.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Develop a lesson’s plans in accordance with the needs of the learner; Teach communicative languages skills ( speaking, reading, listening, and writing); Design communicative tasks.
CILO-2: Differentiate teaching methods.
CILO-3: Recognize the importance of different pedagogical tools (textbooks; new technologies in language teaching; preparation of teaching materials).
CILO-4: Perceive the importance of Language evaluation and the differences on evaluating different language skills (oral and written comprehension and production).
CILO-5: Realize the importance and be able to plan a class.
CILO-6: Recognize the importance of intercultural education, student’s individual characteristics and socio-cultural backgrounds).
