Course Description
An advanced course in the use of spoken and written English. Students will be exposed to contemporary written and audio/video materials relevant to issues in the Portuguese-speaking nations and will be required to research topics and make written and oral presentations. Particular emphasis will be given to areas of public Administration, Law and Business.
Intended Learning Outcomes
Objectives: The student will be able to:
In written production:
1. Write narrative texts (introduction/development/conclusion) applying adequately the past in Portuguese (perfect/imperfect/Plus than perfect) (narrative);
2. Write argumentative texts (introduction/development/conclusion) in order to show a cohesive and coherent point of view (dissertation).
In oral production:
1. Produce expositive oral presentations (introduction/development/conclusion) applying adequately tenses of present (seminar);
2. Produce oral argumentative texts in order to discuss themes and issues (debate).
In oral/written comprehension:
1. Identifying different textual genders and its social functions (the chain of ideas and the structure of the logic applied in texts);
2. Identifying the structure of texts and the contents/senses constructed by them.
