Course Description
This course is designed to help students understand the Portuguese-speaking world’s contemporary texts and further develop skills in literacy, critical reading, and writing. Different genres will be covered (poetry, romances, short novels and dramas), and a further understanding of the various cultures, societies and works underlying literary texts will be attended. This course will thus provide students with appropriate skills for critically analysing major literary genres.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Demonstrate advanced knowledge of the Portuguese-speaking world’s contemporary literature.
CILO-2: Produce a written essay on a literary subject, respecting academic writing.
CILO-3: Apply advanced literary concepts to the analysis of the literature produced in Portugal, Brazil and African Portuguese-speaking countries.
CILO-4: Identify the main aesthetic and socio-historical elements in selected literary texts.
