Course Description
This course deals with the basic skills of written translation from Chinese to Portuguese, considering aspects of contrastive language structure, semantics, pragmatics and style. Based on advanced translation practice, students will have a more systematic study of translation between Chinese and Portuguese. They will begin to translate texts more complicated, of a more varied nature, in order to prepare them better for the future translation work in their professional career.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Adapt to the syntactic, semantic and pragmatic transformation between Chinese and Portuguese and identify the different characteristics of these two languages.
CILO-2: Analyse Chinese texts with varied topics using available tools and materials.
CILO-3: Translate in acceptable ways based on the selection of relevant translating principles, strategies, and techniques according to textual genres, styles and functions.
CILO-4: Use Portuguese in a clear and smooth way to express the meaning of the texts in the original language.
