Course Description
This course provides an overview of the history of the Portuguese-speaking countries, with special emphasis on recent and contemporary issues, resorting to images, historical documents, and videos. From the Portuguese maritime expansion up to the present, the course focuses on the evolution of the Portuguese Colonial Empire’s political, social, cultural, and economic aspects, the decolonisation, and the formation of the Portuguese-speaking countries and their global involvement.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Identify the most important moments of the Portuguese-speaking countries.
CILO-2: Describe the Portuguese maritime expansion and colonial empire in Africa, Brazil, and Asia.
CILO-3: Locate in time and space events and relevant processes of the different historical moments studied, linking them with different contexts.
CILO-4: Compare the concrete characteristics of the societies that make up the space of Portuguese-speaking countries and identify relationships between the various aspects, using the specific vocabulary of the course.
CILO-5: Discuss the history and culture of different countries with global history, distinguishing dynamic articulations and analogies - chronological, regional and/or local thematic specifics.
