This course deals with the basic written translation skills from Portuguese to Chinese, considering aspects of contrastive language structure, semantics, pragmatics and style. Based on the completion of the 2nd year of Portuguese studies, students will start translating the text of a varied nature in order to prepare them for future translation work in their professional careers.

CILO-1: Adapt to the syntactic, semantic and pragmatic transformation between Portuguese and Chinese and recognise the different characteristics of these two languages. CILO-2: Analyse the texts in Portuguese with varied topics using available tools and materials. CILO-3: Translate in acceptable ways based on the selection of relevant translating principles, strategies, and techniques according to textual genres, styles and functions. CILO-4: Use Chinese in a clear and smooth way to express the meaning of the texts in the original language.
