Course Description
This course will provide students with basic training in spoken and written Spanish, oral practice for various everyday situations and essential grammatical structures. It will also provide them a general introduction to the Spanish speaking countries, their society and their culture.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Know how to distinguish Spanish sounds and pronounce them in a way that other Spanish speakers will be able to understand.
CILO-2: Have acquired a core active vocabulary of Spanish of around 100‐150 words.
CILO-3: Have developed skills to make accurate predictions on the meaning of words and sentences through the context or their cognates in other languages known.
CILO-4: Have developed basic intuitions on the Spanish morphology and syntax and learnt basic grammar patterns.
CILO-5: Have learned how to produce and understand simple messages in Spanish and interactively communicate in certain social situations with a basic awareness of the pragmatic rules involved.
CILO-6: Know how to write simple compositions in Spanish about themselves, their family and the world around them.
