Course Description
This course introduces students to logic. Topics include the concept of critical thinking, the nature and modes of reasoning, the structure of argument, premises and conclusions, validity, inference, fallacy, argumentation, deductive and inductive reasoning, and causal arguments.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Construct arguments of their own by combining informed theorizing with the capacity of developing, defending and contextualizing positions by way of logical reasoning.
CILO-2: Employ critical, clear, and self-reflective argumentation skills and to draw on, analyze, and evaluate arguments from the humanities, the natural sciences, politics, and society at large.
CILO-3: Transfer logical argumentation skills, particularly for the purpose of writing research papers or engaging in debates.
