Course Description
This course aims to bring together the study of legal regimes governing air and outer spaces. Firstly, international air law will be introduced including its sources, international organizations, the jurisdiction and legal control of different air spaces. Freedoms of the air, air traffic rights, safety and security norms, and liability in air transportation will be examined specifically. Secondly, the course will study the law governing outer space activities including space launches, space tourism, liability for damages and the contemporary legal issues. Finally, the course will introduce the air law and legal issues facing the outer space activities of specific states.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Students will be able to determine the international legal standards governing air spaces and aviation activities.
CILO-2: Students will be able to instruct on the freedoms of the air and air traffic rights, the safety and security norms as well as liability arising out of air transportation activities.
CILO-3: Students will be able to characterize the nature of legal regime governing outer space and trace the normative developments governing outer space activities.
CILO-4: Students will be able to determine the liability for damages caused by outer space objects and other activities in the outer space.
CILO-5: Students will be able to illustrate the legal standards and contemporary legal developments relating to air and outer space activities in specific contexts.
