Course Description
This course introduces traditional Japanese literature, including poetry, novels and dramas, from the inception to 1868. At the end of the course, students will be familiar with selected Japanese writers and their works.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Students will be able to construct critical opinions and discussions on a wide range of early Japanese poetry, fiction and non-fiction.
CILO-2: Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the early development of Japanese literature.
CILO-3: Students will be able to interpret the impact of East Asian philosophy on early Japanese literary works through an analysis of the original texts.
