Course Description
This course introduces the principles and practices of financial management. It describes financial decision making processes for firms where the desired outcome is the creation of wealth for shareholders. The first objective is to develop an appreciation for the relevance of financial theory and its empirical validation. The second objective is to provide a set of opportunities to productively link theory with practice. The third and last objective is to let the students understand the process of value creation and the principles of 'value based' management. Topics in this course include the time value of money, financial analysis and planning, cost of capital, capital budgeting, capital structure, working capital management, long-term financing decisions, dividends policy, mergers and acquisitions and the international dimensions of finance especially in integrated resorts and hospitality industry. Research and analytical skills will also be emphasized within the module.
