Course Description
This course aims to cover the main aspects of the administrative law regulation and the commercial law issues related to the hospitality and tourism industries, including: lodging; food, beverage and entertainment; and the travel industry. A common theme underlying the various specialized areas shall be the role of the regulators (MGTO and IACM) and the general purposes of achieving quality and a high degree of consumer protection.
Intended Learning Outcomes
Identify and explain the main characteristics of the legal system of Macau and its differences from those of Hong Kong and mainland China; define contracts and civil liability (torts) and understand the relevance of contractual law and civil liability in the context of the hospitality and tourism industry; define and explore the regulation concerning hotels and alike and the legal relation between innkeepers and guests; define and explore the regulation concerning travel agencies and the legal relation between agencies, tour guides and tourists; characterize the notion of illegal accommodation and distinguish it from the legal forms of accommodation.
