Course Description
This course provides the student an opportunity to explore the function of conventions and exhibitions from the point of view of the convention and exhibition center manager. Consideration is given to various methods used to sell a location to a planner and the servicing of large groups. It will also provide students with an overview of the MICE industry. It examines the physical requirements, marketing, management and operation of convention and exhibition facilities. Emphasis is also placed on the planning and organization of conventions, meetings and exhibition.
Intended Learning Outcomes
1. Evaluate the knowledge of MICE Management - students will be able to examine the concepts in implementing, management and monitoring a MICE event and the range of events this represents such as conventions, exhibitions and incentive travel;
2. Understand the structure, services, and interactions within the MICE industry - students will understand the relationship between participants, suppliers, venue providers, organisers, and policy makers within the MICE industry specifically and the hospitlaity and tourism industry in general;
3. Implement the role of MICE in communities and environments that they affect - students will be able to evaluate the contributions and impacts of the development of the MICE industry in social, economic, political, cultural, and other areas;
4. Understand the diversity that prevails within the hospitality and tourism industry - students will understand the complexity of the interactions between the various stakeholders in the hospitality and tourism industry on issues related to MICE development and management.
