Course Description
This course introduces the fundamental principles and concepts of chemistry to lay a foundation for future learning for students majoring in health sciences. The major areas covered in this course include atomic and molecular structure, chemical reactions and stoichiometry, energy and thermochemistry, chemical bonding, gases, chemical kinetics, chemical equilibrium, and property of liquids and solids.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Describe the atomic and molecular nature of matter and the chemical reactions that describe their transformations.
CILO-2: Use the qualitative and quantitative methods to solve chemical problems.
CILO-3: Explain the concept of chemical equilibrium, reaction rate and equilibrium.
CILO-4: Explain the concept of chemical kinetics and the energy that is required to initiate a chemical reaction.
CILO-5: Describe the reactivity of acids and bases in aqueous solutions.
CILO-6: Describe the properties of matter in gas phase.
CILO-7: Describe solution, solid and modern materials.
CILO-8: Relate the knowledge in chemistry principles and concepts to health science and other fields in science.
