Course Description
All students of the Honours College are required to complete a one-year honours project that leads to the development a scholarly product. It takes the form of an undergraduate research thesis/creative project mentored by a faculty member in the student’s field of study.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Research Skills: Students should be able to integrate research skills relevant to their discipline in completing the final project. For some discipline this may include designing and executing experiments, data analysis and drawing appropriate conclusions. Others may include effective use of peer-reviewed literature in their discipline and critically evaluate them.
CILO-2: Project management skills: Students learn to manage a project in a timely and organized fashion either independently or with peers in groups.
CILO-3: Communication skills: Students will develop oral and written presentation skills that prepare them for further academic studies and professional practices. Students are expected to orally present information in a clear and organized manner, as well as write well organized and concise project reports in a scientifically/professionally appropriate style.
CILO-4: Team skills: For students working in research groups, they will learn to work effectively in a group, be effective leaders as well as effective team members, and interact productively with a diverse set of peers.
