Course Description
This course aims to equip students with the key knowledge and concepts deployed in the writing of Macao history. It aims to ground students’ knowledge of Macao as a research area by engaging them with wider historical themes and perspectives, including but not limited to colonial history, Chinese history, social history, cultural studies, global connections, postcolonial studies and heritage studies. Students will be familiarized with major theoretical perspectives and inter-disciplinary approaches useful in the study and research of Macao history. They will achieve a critical reflection of Macao history as an area studies linked to local developments and wider historical trends.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Identify major themes in Macao historiography.
CILO-2: Critically discuss the major concepts and theoretical perspectives used in the writing of Macao history.
CILO-3: Analyze and identify the strengths and weaknesses of existing scholarly literature on Macao history.
CILO-4: Explain the connections between the developments in Macao historiography and wider local, regional and global trends in the writing of history.
CILO-5: Explain and appraise the relevance of Macao’s historical developments to changes in Macao historiography.
