Course Description
This course is to discuss the evolution of military force in China from the early Qing to the Korean War, including the Eight Banners, Green Standard, Militia, New Army, and People’s Liberation Army. The course will introduce the major fights, battles, and wars, such as the Opium Wars, Taiping Rebellion, Sino-French War, Sino-Japanese War, War of Resistance against Japanese, and Civil War. The course will also analyze the military ideas, tactics, and strategies of major military leaders such as Li Xiucheng, Zeng Guofan, and Mao Zedong. The instructor will guide students to read some important works on the subject.
