Course Description
The course aims to cover three main subjects: the traditional Chinese diplomatic systems and ideas, the collapse and transformation of traditional diplomacy and the establishment of modern diplomacy. This course will first investigate how traditional Chinese regime understood and dealt with foreign relations by setting Qing dynasty as an example. It will then come to a discussion of the collapse of traditional diplomacy and the establishment of modern diplomacy. Besides, it will also have a comprehensive observation of the frontier crisis such as Korea and Vietnam resulted from the western colonialization and Chinese domestic transformation.

CILO-5: Acquire basic reading and writing skills in the history of foreign relationships in the Qing Dynasty.
