Course Description
The course is designed for students to understand the history of the political system in ancient China, its relationship with social development, and the rules of its origin, development, and transformation and get some basic historiographical training through lectures, historiographical reading instructions, class discussion and assignments. The course will expand students’ visions and enable them reach conclusion about the gains and loss in the development of political civilization through a comparison study of the history of the political system in ancient China and the west in a global perspective. The course will help students master the basic requirement and cultivate their interest in academic research. It will build a solid foundation for students who aspire to get further education and training in ancient Chinese history research.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Identify the transitions and transformations of the ancient Chinese political system and the relationship to intellectual and social changes.
CILO-2: Examine sources, theoretical models, and recent scholarship in the study of ancient Chinese political systems.
CILO-3: Acquire a comparative perspective by exploring the similarities and differences of the ancient Chinese political system with other political systems.
