Course Description
This is an introductory course to history of Chinese culture. This course will explore Chinese customs, art, literature, festivals, folklore, religious activities, architecture, medicine, everyday life, and so forth. The course has three major goals. First, it provides students with a basic knowledge of Chinese cultural practices; second, it introduces students to some of the current scholarship of Chinese culture and consumption; and third, it offers a cultural background for students to have a better understanding of today’s China, Chinese people, their thought, and their society.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: List and define key events, names, and periods in Chinese cultural history.
CILO-2: Describe major frameworks and issues in Chinese cultural history.
CILO-3: Use these concepts and frameworks to analyze related historical events.
CILO-4: Compare and contrast different cultural phenomena in Chinese history at both empirical and conceptual levels.
CILO-5: Produce and develop arguments clearly and cohesively in writing assignments.
CILO-6: Acquire basic reading and writing skills in Chinese culture history.
