Course Description
This course is designed to introduce students practical and theoretical approaches to the key issues and working practices in the field of cultural heritage. It is aimed at both those who wish to study cultural heritage as an academic subject, and those who might wish to obtain employment in the broad professions. The topics include studies of monuments, historic houses, cultural landscapes, cultural routes, intangible cultural heritage, and so forth.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Identify key developments in the history of cultural heritage regimes and practices, as well as the relations, differences, and cultural and intellectual complexities.
CILO-2: Define and evaluate the various meanings and uses of heritage, including how it differs from history.
CILO-3: Compare relevant international and national policies, regulations, and industries involved in the protection and management of cultural heritage.
CILO-4: Determine the roles, competences and responsibilities of heritage professionals.
CILO-5: Apply definitions, terminology and concepts of cultural heritage to specific sites and to tasks related to heritage management, helping students improve critical reading and writing skills.
