The course introduces how the new members in the east joined the European Union and the relation between the former Communist countries as well as those in the Mediterranean region. It also presents the discussions for further enlargement of the EU.

CILO-1: Identify major aspects of the EU’s neighborhood policy, including major countries and regions, historical background, current issues and trends. CILO-2: Discuss major events, issues, and impacts of the EU’s neighborhood policy. CILO-3: Analyze various aspects of the EU’s neighborhood policy, with proper concepts and theories. CILO-4: Express and argue in a logical and professional manner with general communication skills, both oral and written.
