Course Description
The course's rationale is to further the students' understanding about the EU internal market and the rules governing it with the focus on the four freedoms and the principles regulating free movement within the EU. Its builds upon the foundation material in ECIEU taught earlier in the year and examines the substantive law of the ED. As such, the course provides combination of lectures on laws and rules regulating internal market followed by discussion. It also explains the free movement of goods, persons, services and capital and concludes with basic competition rules with reference to the case law.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Identify history of market integration in the European Union and the concepts, economic reasoning and significance of the internal market.
CILO-2: Explain the mechanics and convergence of the fundamental freedoms (free movement of goods, services, capital, persons) and the process and reasons of harmonization.
CILO-3: Summarize important decisions of the Court and its ramifications, and discuss EU Law elements on given cases or relevant facts with structured reasoning and explanation.
CILO-4: Locate and refer to relevant primary legal sources to practical situation or unstructured facts.
CILO-5: Utilize case law and apply substantive law to private parties.
