Course Description
This course aims to present a general understanding of the developments in European peace, security, defence and military policies with special reference to EU's CSFP, CESDP, the new EU crises intervention force and the EU armament market. It will provide the students with the necessary theoretical-methodological as well as historical background for this understanding.
Intended Learning Outcomes
1. Identify the key developments of the EU/CFSP until the Lisbon Treaty;
2. Identify and operate within the Lisbon Treaty new solutions for CFSP and CSDP;
3. Recognise the legal provisions governing the operation of EU/CFSP, CSDP and EU external action;
4. Recognise the EU decision-making process in CSDP related matters (including the budget issues);
5. Discuss critically the concept of 'Comprehensive Approach' to crisis;
6. Recognize the competences of the EU Institutions in CFSP/CSDP and the representation powers;
7. Discuss the EU policies for its areas of interest and the leading CFSP horizontal issues;
8. Discuss the impact of BREXIT in CFSP/CSDP related matters;
9. Practice the decision-making process using a 'Union Action' and 'restrictive measures' to engage in an humanitarian crisis.
