This is an introductory course in the theory and practice of public policy wherein the problems, agendas and formulation of policy formation will be discussed. It also examines several theories of public policy including theories of policy adoption and policy implementation. The course will conclude with discussions on topics such as policy impact, evaluation and change in public policy making.
Intended Learning Outcomes
Students should understand the difference forms of current interaction between public policies and politics as well as the more recent developments in public policy. At the end of the seminar the students should be able to identify and discuss current transformations on the EU space of politics (resulting from global interdependence), the time of politics (short vs long term political choices), and the modes of politics (with a focus on the impact of the digital society in politics and policies). In addition, the students should become knowledgeable on the most recent developments in public policies: from how they are designed and implemented (including the use of data nos science) to how they are assessed (including the move from outputs to outcome).
