This course surveys the objectives pursued by government in managing the economy, the means employed in pursuit of those objectives, and theories concerning economic behavior of governments.

CILO-1: Identify key components of theoretic concepts in political economy, with illustration from the experiences of China. CILO-2: Discuss the role of political economy in understanding economic development. CILO-3: Locate and evaluate the institutional parameters that have defined and redefined authority relations in people’s daily life. CILO-4: Communicate the importance of empirical evidence in economics, and evaluate an empirical study about China from its empirical evidence and analytical skill.
