Course Description
This course is a general introduction of China’s state and society. It will include topics such as ways of understanding regimes in the world, social and ideational bases of the traditional and modern Chinese regimes, ways of mass participation and government responsiveness, disappearing rural and urban division through urbanization/modernization, central-local relations, and the impact of foreign relations on China’s progress. After finishing this course, students should have obtained the basic knowledge about China’s past and present in the context of internal and external conditions.
