Course Description
This course aims at helping PhD students to familiarise themselves with the academic practice in their early academic careers, with a focus on training on how to carry out research by way of performing research tasks. It is designed to help students develop their ability in academic writing, covering aspects essential for writing a research paper and the dissertation. Specifically, the course will invite students to make connections between the course readings and their own research projects and to apply what has been studied to their own research. Students will also have opportunities to participate/organize academic activities.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Demonstrate familiarity with research procedures and major methodologies.
CILO-2: Apply major methodologies to their own research.
CILO-3: Present their research effectively in a thesis through writing up the Abstract, the Introduction, the Literature Review, the Research Methodology, the Description and Discussion, and the Conclusion.
CILO-4: Organize and participate in academic activities such as seminars and symposiums or conferences.
