This course examines the impact of modernity on English and American literature. The course will trace the emergence, development, and influence of modernism in Anglo-American writing. The first half of the 20th century, the period of High Modernism, will receive special attention. Also considered will be the legacy and surviving influence of modernism.

CILO-1: Identify and explain the role played by changes in technology and politics on both the content and form of Twentieth Century Literature, in particular modern warfare. CILO-2: Explain the different forms and techniques which emerged in the twentieth century. CILO-3: Demomstrate and explain the symbiotic role played by art, film and music in relation to twentieth century English literature.
