Course Description
The purpose of this course is to improve students' language awareness, academic communication skills, and research abilities so they can perform competently as they complete an MA degree in English. Course content and activities are meant to develop skills in academic research and writing to include understanding research methods and thesis development processes as well as presenting research proposals orally and in writing.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Demonstrate understanding and skills in the analysis, evaluation and interpretation of specific forms of research writing.
CILO-2: Show critical awareness of various research design and methodological approaches, considering issues of reliability, validity, generalizability and trustworthiness.
CILO-3: Practice the intellectual discipline and critical skills necessary for scholarly work in the humanities and social sciences: objectivity, respect for and fidelity to sources, awareness of and sensitivity to ethical issues, collegiality and critical thinking.
