Course Description
This course will focus on the Romantic Movement, beginning with its rise to prominence in the late 18th century to its later influence on Western writing. Key English Romantic poets will receive special attention. Certain classic texts of the Gothic genre may also be considered. The sociohistorical and cultural origins of Romanticism and its influence on near-contemporary Western writing may also be examined. A parallel aim of this course is the development of competence in the analysis of poetry, especially the lyric poem.

CILO-1: Identify the given texts and interpret their content in a written format.
CILO-2: Develop and formulate a practicable thesis topic.
CILO-3: Compose a reasoned discussion on their chosen text supporting their arguments with textual evidence and help from secondary material.
