This is a beginner level course in interpreting between English and Chinese. Learners will be systematically introduced to the key differences between translation and interpreting and learn about strategies and techniques employed in different modes of interpreting. The main emphasis in this course is on the Consecutive Mode, while it also aims to lay a foundation for training in Simultaneous Interpreting. Learners will undergo intensive training in memory exercises, accent recognition, paraphrasing and note-taking. Texts from different genres and fields will be taken up for practice.
