Course Description
This one-semester three-credit writing courses will enable students to express themselves coherently when engaged in written academic discourse. The course offer intensive work and instruction in writing skills through the discussion and analysis of assigned readings. Students spend time responding to multiple drafts of peer academic papers to improve precision and clarity in the writing process. Other necessary skills addressed in this courses are identifying and making logical arguments as well as avoiding faulty reasoning. Upon completion of this courses, students are expected to have acquired the confidence and techniques to write academic papers in a professional writing style.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Conduct Internet and database research and evaluate web-based information.
CILO-2: Summarize, analyze, and evaluate source material.
CILO-3: Synthesize information and compose approximately 1500-word academic papers using APA style.
CILO-4: Analyze, justify, and evaluate arguments.
CILO-5: Employ a multi-stage writing process to include drafting, revising, and incorporating feedback from peers and instructor.
CILO-6: Present the results of research in an academic presentation.
