Course Description
This course will present objectives, characteristics, and commonly-used strategies of qualitative, quantitative and mixed-method research for Year-one EdD students. This course aims to promote EdD students’ ability to understand, interpret and apply different research approaches in authentic research contexts and prepare them for conducting empirical studies at a later stage. At the same time, research ethics policy is one of essential parts in this course during whole research design of all kinds of empirical studies.

CILO-1: Identify the role of theory in educational research.
CILO-2: Articulate researchable issues in education.
CILO-3: Understand “theorizing” in educational research.
CILO-4: Successfully locate published research related to a given topic.
CILO-5: Distinguish between qualitative and quantitative paradigms of educational research.
CILO-6: Read, summarize, and evaluate qualitative and quantitative studies (methodologies and findings).
CILO-7: Demonstrate a good understanding of procedures for preparing a EdD thesis.
