Course Description
This course will present qualitative research objectives, qualitative research characteristics, and commonly used qualitative research strategies for Year-1 PhD students. This course aims to promote PhD students’ ability to understand, interpret and apply qualitative approaches in authentic research contexts and prepare them for learning advanced qualitative research at a later stage.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Distinguish features among three kinds of research (qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods) in terms of research paradigms, ontology, epistemology, methodology, validity, reliability, and ethics.
CILO-2: Master knowledge and skills of qualitative research design (e.g., case study, narrative inquiry) to address educational issues.
CILO-3: Apply different kinds of qualitative approaches (e.g., interviewing, classroom observations) in authentic research contexts.
CILO-4: Report qualitative findings in a precise, coherent, and academic manner in their doctoral dissertations.
