Course Description
This course aims at introducing to PhD students an overall view of understanding and conducting
educational research in a scholarly way. Critical issues are discussed in this module, including
conceptualization, operationalization, measurement and others in order to lay a solid foundation for
junior researchers in developing their research career.

Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Recognize the stylistic conventions of academic writing (e.g., voice, ideas, presentation, conventions, organization, word choice, and sentence fluency).
CILO-2: Summarise scholarly literature on a chosen topic by identifying and highlighting their main ideas and messages.
CILO-3: Generate independent perspectives and (counter) arguments via persuasive and successful incorporation of research literature.
CILO-4: Practice the revision skills necessary for completing an academic paper (e.g., revising for stronger evidence, effective organization, scholarly voice, word choice and grammar).
CILO-5: Respond to comments from editors and reviewers effectively (e.g., preparing the response letter, making changes as suggested and explaining why certain changes were not made).
