Course Description
This course provides opportunities to explore various perspectives on theory, research, and pedagogical applications in second language writing. The course aims to equip students with strategies to help second language learners develop the skills necessary for effective writing. Topics include the nature of L2 writing, approaches to teaching L2 writing, L2 writing processes, features of L2 writers’ texts, beliefs and attitudes of L2 writers, feedback on L2 writing, L2 writing assessment, contexts for L2 writing, and L2 writing teacher education. Course participants will be helped to make connections between theory and practice and understand key issues that underlie second language writing, and acquire skills and techniques for planning, teaching and assessing second language writing. CILO-1: Explain how to teach L2 writing, research about L2 writing, and develop L2 writing.
CILO-2: Interpret L2 writing theories and L2 writing teaching approaches.
