Course Description
This course aims to equip students with modern theories and ideas for mathematics instruction, to develop their skills to make effective mathematics instruction design with ICT effectively and to develop ability to design assessment for various mathematics topics. The key elements of mathematics instructional design, formative-and-summative assessment in important school mathematics topics will be examined and developed jointly. Students will be further required to critically and creatively address how these elements and knowledge can be combined systematically to design effective mathematics lessons, implement in real classrooms, reflect on the requirements and philosophy of current mathematics curriculum reform, and make improvement on their design.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Examine the theoretical foundations and ideas for both classical and modern mathematics instruction and assessment.
CILO-2: Articulate a deep understanding of the important topics in school mathematics.
CILO-3: Apply the basic elements for mathematics instructional design to create effective instructional plans and assessment tasks for various types of mathematics knowledge (e.g. concepts and algorithms) with ICT integration.
CILO-4: Implement effective mathematics instruction strategies to improve skills and foster enhanced learning experiences.
CILO-5: Design a small-scale experimental study to assess the effectiveness of mathematics instructional design of a chosen topic.
