Course Description
This course focuses on STEM implementation at the classroom level with the focus on learner centered instruction. Student will explore both traditional and emerging teaching approaches that support STEM inquiry-based learning. Developing appropriate STEM learning actives that aligning with learning objectives and the development of learning products will be emphasized. The use of assessments to facilitate learning will be emphasized. The roles of teachers and learners in supporting learning of this kind will be discussed. The class will also explore and use various technologies; digital media and STEM resources coordinated by FST’s Centre for Science & Engineering Promotion that support STEM education and learning. For this course, in addition to vivid demonstrations and innovative hand-on experiences, students are required to intern with academic staff and graduate students in FST on a research/design project.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Describe various science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) pedagogies.
CILO-2: Articulate roles of teachers and students in supporting learner-centered STEM pedagogies.
CILO-3: Work effectively within teams.
CILO-4: Provide an authentic activity that will support their future STEM teaching and STEM project work in schools.
CILO-5: Provide with exposure to a research environment where they can experience the challenges and obstacles that are inevitable in research.
