Course Description
This is a compulsory course for the INS program. This course aims to provide various opportunities for students to understand basic concepts, principles, and theories in the field of science education and recognize the salient tendencies and features of science education development around the world. In particular, curriculum reforms and instructional innovations in school science in Macao as well as mainland China are highlighted. To become qualified science teachers in Macao and beyond, students are exposed to various kinds of processes, methods, skills of science teaching, and concrete teaching cases as well. Students are requested to critically analyze science curriculum and teaching materials currently used in secondary schools and learn to prepare science lesson plans. Moreover, opportunities are provided for them to conduct micro-teaching in the simulated context of school science. The instructional strategies and methods are diversified, involving lecture, guided reading, discussion, class observation, and micro-teaching.
