Course Description
This course, drawing on both traditional and modern English grammar, provides opportunities for students to develop their grammatical knowledge of the English language that is particularly relevant to Macao school English teaching context. The course helps students to develop a sound understanding of key concepts in English grammar. Students will be able to differentiate and explain key grammatical phenomena, e.g. word classes, clause types, and clause functions etc., and apply their knowledge in activities and real language use The teaching approach adopted for this course will involve teacher lectures as well as student text-based discussion, analysis and presentation of key grammatical concepts, as well as mock teaching of particular grammar items. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to interpret grammatical phenomena in current English course-books confidently, and demonstrate grammatical accuracy in academic and professional speaking and writing.

CILO-4: Recognise and describe the basic structure of English sentences.

CILO-6: Demonstrate a better awareness of grammatical and pedagogical knowledge relevant to the English learning and teaching context in Macao.
