Course Description
This is an introductory course on the Sociology of Education. It provides a brief introduction to the basic sociological concepts and perspectives. By applying these concepts and perspectives, the course intends to let participants have a broad and profound understanding of Macao society and its educational system.
Intended Learning Outcomes
CILO-1: Make comparison the changing function, role and form of education in traditional and modern contemporary societies.
CILO-2: Define principles, assumptions, applications and limitations of major sociological theories of education.
CILO-3: Classify various sociological theories and concepts to explain the interrelationship between schooling system, individual experience and various social forces including cultural values, political and economic contexts.
CILO-4: Produce papers and make presentations on social class, mobility, stratification or other equality issues emerged with established educational policies, practices or procedures by using sociological approaches.
